Palo Alto, CA - Thursday, May 2nd, 2013
The survey found that nine out of 10 mothers agree that their adult children do not need to spend money on them for Mother’s Day – a simple phone call is enough. The study, commissioned by Ooma, Inc., the #1 ranked home phone service1, and fielded among mothers with at least one adult child living away from home, also found that only 57 percent of these moms currently receive a phone call. Greeting cards (62 percent) are the most common Mother’s Day correspondence.
“While greeting cards certainly provide great options for personalization, there’s no substitute for hearing your son or daughter’s voice on Mother’s Day,” said Andrea Woroch, consumer savings expert. “Internet phone services make calling much more affordable than other home phone options and now with Ooma, it’s free!”
Calling Mom for Free
Ooma also announced today free international and domestic calls on Sunday, May 12 for customers wishing Mom a “Happy Mother’s Day”.
High call volume on Mother’s Day is nothing new for Ooma, as the company saw a 32 percent spike in international calling in 2012 versus the prior week. For domestic calls, call volume increased by 12 percent versus the prior week. Calls within the U.S. are always free.
“Moms really just want to hear from their children – on Mother’s Day or any other day of the year,” said Jim Gustke, Vice President of Marketing, Ooma, Inc. “We know our customers make those special calls to tell mom how much they care, so we wanted to extend our free nationwide calling to include international calling making it easier for Ooma customers to connect with their Moms.”
