Ooma AirDial selected by Frost & Sullivan as 2025 Leader for POTS Replacement

The copper sunset is in full swing, and it can be a little overwhelming to figure out what you need and which Plain Old Telephone System (POTS) replacement solution is best for your business. We at Ooma think it should be our own solution, Ooma AirDial®, and market research firm Frost & Sullivan agrees. They recently selected Ooma AirDial as the 2025 Competitive Strategy Leader for Best Practices in the North American POTS replacement industry.
“Ooma AirDial stands out among competitor solutions with its broad feature set; compelling packaging; affordable price; robust reliability, security, and compliance capabilities; and unparalleled simplicity and ease of use and management,” said Elka Popova, vice president and senior fellow at Frost & Sullivan and main author of the Best Practices report.

As copper phone lines are phased out by legacy carriers, it gets more difficult to maintain mission-critical devices like fire alarm panels, elevator emergency phones, building entry systems and burglar alarms that rely on POTS connections.
For stakeholders, maintaining those devices either means ripping out old infrastructure and replacing it with new ones, which is expensive and difficult, or turning to a new technology. While VoIP is a growing choice for businesses around the country, it’s not particularly suited for mission-critical devices if it’s a VoIP-only solution. Ooma AirDial, for instance, utilizes MultiPath technology that provides a failover connection in case the wired internet goes down.
This makes POTS replacement devices like AirDial, which convert your old solutions into new ones, an ideal choice. In the category of POTS replacement devices, Frost & Sullivan says many of them operate on unmanaged connections that could potentially violate compliance standards and expose businesses and organizations to security risks.
The report also points out that some Ooma competitors offer hardware-only solutions that ask customers to find their own connectivity options, which makes for a difficult transition. When you’re trying to maintain important security devices like fire alarm panels the last thing you want to do is introduce a bunch of moving parts and multiple companies. Which company is responsible if your security device fails—the one selling the hardware, or the internet service providers?
On the flipside, the report calls Ooma AirDial a “turnkey solution comprised of hardware, data connectivity, and a phone service, providing customers the convenience of one-stop shopping and reducing implementation and management costs as well as integration and interoperability risks associated with multi-vendor solutions.”
Basically, Ooma AirDial is a one-stop shop for your POTS replacement needs. There’s also Remote Device Management, which lets administrators check in and manage devices remotely. As more POTS lines go away, Ooma AirDial is there to make things a little easier. We thank Frost & Sullivan for recognizing our hard work and look forward to helping more businesses make it through the copper sunset! Learn more about Ooma AirDial.
