How to Call Mexico from the U.S.
Calling Mexico from the United States is affordable and easy.
To call Mexico, you can use either your Ooma Telo-connected home phone or the Ooma Mobile app.
- First, dial 011 to exit the U.S. phone system.
- Then dial 52, Mexico’s country code.
- If you’re calling a mobile number, dial 1. For landlines, skip to the next step.
- Next, dial the 10-digit phone number, which includes the area code first.
You may encounter a Mexican phone number that begins with the digits 01, 044 or 045. These are “trunk codes” and a part of Mexico’s national dialing format, similar to how we in the U.S. sometimes use 1 before dialing a long distance number. These are not required to make an international call to Mexico, so if you see them before the 10-digit phone number you don’t have to dial them. Keep in mind that if you’re dialing a mobile number, you do have to dial 1 after the country code and before the area code.
When calling with the Ooma Mobile app, you will not use any minutes or incur international charges on your wireless bill. These calls are routed over your data connection and may count against your data allotment if you’re not on an unlimited plan with your carrier. To minimize data usage, connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot.
