Why is porting important?
Porting allows you to transfer your existing business phone number from your old phone company to Ooma. This reduces time and hassle for you and your employees while also making the transition easy for your customers as well.
How do I port my business number?
You can port your business phone number through Ooma Office Manager, by contacting our customer care team or using the convenient tool below. Porting a number is complimentary for all U.S. and Canada numbers. You can add additional phone numbers at the standard rate of $9.95/month for US accounts, and $14.95/month for Canadian accounts.
What you need to know about Ooma Office porting.
Here are a few important things you should know before you begin the number porting process:
- Check to see if your number is portable by using the porting tool below. Number porting is available in most areas.
- You can port your number by using the “Porting” subtab option in the Account tab in Ooma Office Manager.
- It may take 3-4 weeks to successfully port your number over to Ooma Office. It is important to keep your existing business phone service until this process is complete, or you may run the risk of losing your business number.
- You can use the “Porting” tab in Ooma Office Manager to check on the status of your business number – you will be provided a temporary number in the meantime that will be replaced once the porting process is complete. If you change your mind, you can also keep your temporary number permanently.

What numbers can I port to Ooma?
You can port most phone numbers to Ooma. You can check whether your current phone number can be ported to Ooma by visiting www.ooma.com/port.
What information do I need to port my phone number?
To port your phone number to Ooma, you’ll need to provide:
- The phone number you want to port
- The type of phone number (landline, VoIP, mobile)
- The type of broadband Internet service you have (cable, DSL, etc)
- You may also have the option to upload a copy of your most recent phone bill, which can be helpful for resolving problems during the porting process.
What happens once I’ve initiated a phone number port?
Once you’ve initiated the porting process, Ooma will send you a Firm Order Confirmation (FOC) date approximately two weeks after submitting your Letter of Authorization (LOA). This date signifies when your number will be ported to Ooma from your current phone company. After the successful porting, Ooma will conduct a test call to ensure the process was successful, and you’ll be notified via email once it’s complete.
What happens to my temporary number after my number has been ported to Ooma?
Once your number has been successfully ported to Ooma, it will replace your temporary number as the default phone number for your Ooma account. Your temporary number will be released back into the pool of available numbers. If you wish to keep your temporary number permanently, you can request it to be assigned as a virtual number on your account by contacting Customer Care.
